Meet James

James Tinsley

The Artist - James Tinsley

On 18th September, our brother James passed away suddenly at the age of 40. Despite the physical and learning disabilities he faced throughout his life, he met every challenge with remarkable resilience. He was well known, deeply loved, and brought joy to so many people.

Art was at the heart of James' life. With the expert guidance and encouragement of his art tutor, Lucy, he created hundreds of beautiful pieces that he proudly gifted to friends and family. His artwork reflected his varied interests, from wildlife and landscapes to festive Christmas scenes, football stadiums and local landmarks, particularly those of his beloved home village of Great Waltham.

For James, art was far more than a hobby. It was a form of therapy that helped him express himself, process his emotions, build confidence, improve his wellbeing and connect with others. It gave him purpose, pride and happiness throughout his life.

James never allowed his circumstances to define him. His artwork is a testament to his creativity, determination and zest for life. Whatever challenges he faced, he remained positive, cheerful and full of humour, always ready with a laugh, a joke or a bit of friendly banter with everyone around him.

To honour his memory we (his brothers, Mark and Steve) are building the James Tinsley Art Foundation. Our aim is to share James' incredible artwork with as wide an audience as possible, ensuring his legacy continues to inspire others for many years to come.

Our mission is simple: to raise awareness of the life-changing benefits of art therapy, provide a hub of information, and signpost people to organisations that can help. We hope that James' story will encourage others to discover how creating art can support mental health, wellbeing and human connection.

Anyone who knew James will probably smile at the thought that, as he'd have said himself, "I'd have bloody loved having a foundation named after me!" And the truth is, he absolutely deserves it.

Thank you for visiting our website. If James' story has touched you, we'd be incredibly grateful if you could like and follow our Facebook page, share his artwork, and help spread our message. Every share helps keep James' legacy alive- and could help someone discover the transformative power of art therapy.
